Safe Dishes For Kids

After doing tons of reading and researching about the dangers of plastics in children’s products, I decided that one of the first things I need to do is search out the best option for my children’s dishes.

I read tons of stuff about many different products, but for me, it all came down to enamelware. It is the safest thing I could find on the market, and I love that it won’t break if the kids drop it! It is a great alternative to Melamine and other plastics.

It was hard finding something cute for the kids though. Most enamel plates are just that plain speckelware, like camping dishes. Finally, I found a company that makes some really cute kids stuff. It’s called Golden Rabbit.

I looked into the company’s safety policy, and what really impressed me about them was their great concern for food safety. Here is their safety statement:

…we have hired independent U.S. labs to regularly conduct the FDA lead & cadmium tests on every new production. Before any shipment leaves our overseas factories, samples from the shipment must pass both of these FDA compliance tests.”

Being a frugal person, I realize that these dish sets are a little… pricey. But I figure it will last them forever, they can even pass it down to their children when they are grown, and most importantly after all, you can’t put a price on your child’s safety!! So to me, $24 for a plate, bowl, and cup isn’t too bad (it’s cheaper to buy them individually rather than buying the keepsake boxed set).

As soon as I found these, I put them on my kids’ birthday/Christmas lists. Here are the two sets that we have:

Me, and the kids love them!

This company has been featured in several magazines, including Baby & Kids, and National Geographic’s Green Guide.

So, if you’re concerned with the safety of the dishes that your child is eating off of, and you’ve been searching for an alternative to the plastic stuff, you may want to consider enamelware. And, if this is too pricey for you, Walmart carries enamel dishes in their camping section. I haven’t researched their safety policy, but it might be worth looking into if you want a cheaper alternative.

Have you found a similar kid’s dish product that you’d like to share with us?

Those are so cute! I didn’t see it on their website, but are they microwave safe? I love the butterfly plates and the Christmas ones would be so cute to use around the holidays.

    Thanks for sharing this!

    AmyG,

I do not think they are microwave safe. That’s the only downside to these. If I find out otherwise though, I’ll let ya know! They are, however, oven safe.
