Planting Corn

On April 27th we planted our corn. (I’m trying to catch up on posting all of our gardening stuff, for my own record really.) I’m planting Golden Bantam Heirloom Corn. Here is what I did:

Using a hoe I made two long trenches about 1″ deep, and 3 ft. apart from each other.

Next, me and Jada placed the corn seeds in the trench. We placed 2 seeds together every 6″; hopefully at least one of the two will sprout.

We used the hoe again to cover over the seeds.

I marked the rows with stakes at each end. Then we watered them.

I was so excited yesterday when I went out into the garden and found them already sprouting! I was surprised that it only took 7 days, and they are already between 1-2″ tall. Jada was really excited too.

Oh, I hope they do well!!

Yay for your corn! I can’t wait to plant ours – it’s too early here yet. I have the same variety as you. Plus I bought some popcorn seed. I REALLY can’t wait to see how that turns out! Have fun growing your own groceries!!
