The Best Homemade Hot Cocoa

>7 October 2009 956 views

I’ve been using this recipe for a while now, and we all LOVE it!! It is SO GOOD, and way cheaper than buying a box of store bought stuff!

Hot Cocoacocoa 002 (Medium)

(makes 1 cup)

  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder (I like Dutch Cocoa)
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 c. milk
  • dash vanilla (optional)

Put the first three ingredients in a small saucepan and heat over med-low heat until melted, stirring constantly. Add milk and vanilla and stir until heated through to desired temp.

Delicious!!

I do a very similar recipe but with a couple of changes. If you melt the sugar and water until it starts to brown then add the coco and mix until it is well absorbed it gives an amazing caramel undertone! I also add the tiniest bit of sea salt.

Yum! I make a very similar cocoa that my mom taught me … but when I make it for myself, I use very little sugar (I’m one of those super-dark-almost-bitter chocolate loving people). Oh, and at night sometimes I love to add in a splash of Peppermint Schnapps or Baileys! :)
