HR 2749 Food “Safety” Bill: UPDATE
I thought I’d give an update on the bill that is threatening to take away our freedom to grow our own food or raise our own livestock. If you don’t remember hearing all of the details, please read what it threatens to take from us all!
So, the bill passed in the House, but when it got to the Senate, they decided it needed some changing. Senate is finished revising the bill now, and is ready for a vote. Sadly, the bill is even WORSE for small family farms, organic growers, and home gardeners!! (You can read the bill HERE)
Great.
They are set to vote on the Senate version of the Food Safety Bill sometime in the next few days. What in the world is going on in this country???? Where are the people?? I feel like I’m over here screaming in my own little world, and everyone is too preoccupied with the trivialities of their own lives to even care what is going on in our country.
Friends, we are losing what little freedoms we have left.
I, for one, and not just going to sit back and take blow after blow. I am a fighter, and I will fight for my freedoms and rights in any way I can!
Look, I am all for stricter regulations on food corporations. I have kids too, and of course I want our food to be safe! My problem with the bill is the lack of verbiage excluding small farms, homesteaders, organic growers, and back yard gardeners from being held to the same strict and impossible regulations.
So, what can you do to help protect us all?
Sign this petition… for every member of your household!
We are not trying to stop this bill, just simply add the following amendment to protect our own rights:
“No provision of this act shall be deemed to apply (a) to any home, home-business, homestead, home or community gardens, small farm, organic or natural agricultural activity, (b) to any family farm or ranch, or (c) to any natural or organic food product, including dietary supplements regulated under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994.”
Is that so much to ask?? If they truly have no intention of including us in the bill, then should have no problem plainly expressing the exclusion.
Will petitioning do any good? I don’t know. But at least it’s doing something. Please take a minute to help fight this craziness!!

thank you!!! I will do this and then post it on my blog later today too!!!!
Blessings!

will this only affect people who want to sell what they grow, or actually people who garden for thier own use?
initially, it will be used for those who wish to sell their goods. but, it has the dangerous potential of being used against anyone. it will give them legal authority over all food production and distribution. that means that if you want to give homemade jellies as gifts at Christmastime, and you don’t follow government regulations, you could legally be prosecuted and charged hefty fines or even face imprisonment. this affects us all!
I hear ya Kendra! I feel the same way…
I just posted it at my blog! Feel free to take a look! Thanks for spreading the word! Keep it up! There are people who care and will FIGHT alongside of you!!!
Blessings and MANY prayers!

“I am all for stricter regulations on food corporations…”
What about the corporations actually being responsible for their actions/awful products and not being able to hide behind the curtain of the federal gov’t or FDA or anything? They’d clean up their acts real quick after a few lawsuits without someone else’s apron/pursestrings to hide behind. That whole silly [personal] responsibility thing I’m weird for preferring rather than socialism. *sigh*
Lanna-
Very true
Did this pass?
Jessica-
They’ve changed it to HR 875. It’s going slowly, but I’ve been keeping an eye on it. You can check it out, along with a ton of other food “safety” related bills here.
thought you might want to read the latest on this
