When we first moved to our place, we did not have a tractor. We did have 2 pigs. So we fenced our garden with about 3 or 4 strands of electric fence. Waited until a nice dewey morning, turned the fence on, and let them out. They walked up to the fence and smelled it with their nose. "SNAP" the fence got them. they squealed, but didn't get out. they had a grand time rooting through the garden. Friends and family would stop by and ask us when we got the garden plowed and where was the new tractor? We just laughed and told them of our garden plowing pigs! Worked for us!

Happy New Year!

Wait until she weighs 350 to 400lbs and shoves on you! Our two pigs( BTW I posted a picture of them yesterday on our blog) push and shove, but I just push and shove back and I've even been known to slug them on the snout if they get to rough. They aren't trying to be mean, that's just how the act with each other. Our pigs love to be scratched, especially their bellies, they lay down and spread open their legs and just sigh when we scratch them. Pigs are the funniest animals we've ever owned, such personalities.

I wish we could put our pigs in the garden spot, but the fencing isn't good enough to hold them and I don't want to be chasing 400lb pigs around the neighborhood!LOL!

Blessings from,
The Never Done farm

I have moments like these when I envision myself sitting down with my former chums from college or high school. As they discuss their careers, manicures, and designer clothes, I say " Well the other day when I was hanging diapers on the line. The pig did the cutest thing." They all look at me with utter shock and disgust. I also think people must think I'm crazy :)
Crazy is fun though!

We, too, have a German Shepherd. Love him. I've been on a homesteading hogs group for a long time. One potential problem with your pigs in with your goats is if your goat ever gets pregnant. Pigs have been known to be too attracted to the blood of birth and eat the babies. Eek! Congrats on finding a solution that's working for you. Our goats come in the Spring. Hooray!

Pigs are extremely smart and actually very clean animals. We have a pot-belly named Peggy Sue. She runs around with the dogs and sleeps in a dog house. I think my Great Pyrennes is in love with her.

I wouldn't be too alarmed by her right now, but I would keep an eye out as she gets bigger. If she's a meat pig, she's gonna get really big and will be hard to manage.

By the way, love the German Shepherd puppy. I have raised 4 in my life. Have just 1 now and they are excellent dogs. You'll see as it gets older, it will know your kids are his (or her) family and will go everywhere they go. Ours always kept a watchful eye over the kids. Yours is beautiful, can't wait to see pics when his ears stand:)
