The Best Banana Pudding

>9 February 2010 1,141 views

banana pudding I know you’ve all had this… yes, I’m sure every  American has had banana pudding! Okay, so I’d never had banana pudding until I moved to the south. Is it a Southern thing? I dunno. But, if you have never had banana pudding, oh my goodness you have to try it! Here is my favorite recipe:

Banana Pudding

  • 4-5 ripe bananas, sliced into bite site pieces
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix; prepared as directed
  • 1 (14 oz) can Sweetened Condensed Milk (or use substitute)
  • 1 box Vanilla Wafers
  • 1 large tub Cool Whip

Using a mixer, beat cream cheese until smooth. Mix in condensed milk. Add prepared vanilla pudding and mix well. In a glass bowl or large casserole dish, layer as follows: vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, pudding mix; repeat, ending with the pudding mix on top. Cover and chill. Top with Cool Whip before serving.

This makes a lot, but it goes quick!

This looks like a super easy and yummy recipe! I never had banana pudding until moving to the South, either, so I guess it is a Southern thing. I’m a California girl, but my husband is from the South and he LOVES banana pudding! I will have to make this as a surprise for him. Maybe for Valentines day. :-)

You crack me up. I should just link to your blog from mine and say “just read her blog”. (Of course mine is neglected LOL) but we’re SO much alike. And at about the same exact points in our homesteading journey. I, too, never had banana pudding until moving to the South. It’s definitely a Southern thing. I never remember EVER seeing it growing up in CA. I know you don’t post where you live but if you live in TN, email me :) Come have tea. Or kombucha. :)

    Kim-

LOL! Thanks :) I wish I could come and have tea with you! Maybe one day I’ll have to have an arrangement where we can all meet and have lunch or something! That would be really fun!

I used to live in Indiana and we had this kind of banana pudding up there. However, when I moved to the South, I had baked banana pudding for the first time. Mike definitely likes it the best! It has a meringue on top like you might put on a chocolate pie or a butterscotch pie.

Now you should make this again, using all your fresh ingredients! Make homeade pudding with your new whole milk and whip your own fresh cream. Imagine how good THAT will be!
