Kendra - I say this all the time, but you really are my hero. Cliff and I were just talking about this the other day, and admiring how self-sufficient you and Jerry have become. I was contemplating what my mental state would be after being cooped up in the house for 2 weeks, and it ain't pretty! Then again - staying as busy as you do would probably help a great deal!

Anyway. You guys inspire us. I think we may even try a geeky hand at gardening this year. Shocking, right? Talk to you soon!

Oh, Anna... I feel so bad for you. I've never had a large burn like that, but it sounds horrible.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

anna-

Oh my goodness, that's terrible!!! I am so sorry to hear that. I can't even imagine how painful and frustrating that must be! I would have done the same thing, trying natural cures first. So sorry it made it worse! I sure hope it is able to heal up quickly!

I, too, have been home two weeks. But it's not the snow/ice that's done it - I was making the Shabbat meal three Saturdays ago and went to move the boiling pan of water from the burner to make mashed potatoes, and it sploshed over the side and onto my sock. Which is worse than it sploshing directly on a foot, as the sock holds the burning water there. As a result, I sustained a third degree burn on my foot. It looks like I've been shot with a 12-gauge up close, and feels about the same.

Then people told me the 'natural' cure was to put honey on it. So I did, and it hurt SO BADLY that I thought I was going to go crazy. After trying vinegar, bagbalm, and antibiotic ointment, I finally called the doctor, and luckily had silvadene on hand from a previous surgery prescription. But by then all the other goops caused infection, and my foot swelled up and turned purple on top of the burn issue. All this with a newborn and four little ones, besides!

Be careful on that bridge. It'd be just awful if something happened to you all!

Thank the Lord, no one was injured. You must have a long driveway.

Our driveway is .1 mile all uphill. In the winter it can be quite dangerous. One night after church I attempted to drive up. We'd had a little snow and it was warm, which made it all pack down. There was sand, but guess there was just enough snow cover. My car got wedged sideways. Mr. D tried to chain on and pull me out but the car just headed more towards the snowbank and we have deep ditches on either side of the driveway. He actually got the car to slide sideways down the driveway.
We knew when we bought the land that the driveway would be a very steep, but the Lord has kept us safe through 3 winters so far. This winter has been mild in comparison to others. Very low snowfall and not a lot of rain either. We have had some cold which is hard on the pipes. The water going to the chicken coop froze long ago and we've been carrying water all winter.
It's just the way of life we've chosen... out in the middle of nowhere. :)

Keep warm and busy!

I sure hope you can get that bridge fixed quickly. This winter has been so brutal. Hopefully things will calm down soon and the bridge can be repaired. In the meantime, stay safe!

Wow! I had the same kind of problem last winter when one of our dirt/culvert bridges collapsed into flood waters. Husband sold his prized mustang to pay for the repairs, but at least it didn't prevent us from getting in and out.

I hope a solution can be afforded soon! But I am so happy that you all are okay and don't mind being at home for extended periods of time!

(I am off from nursing school AGAIN due to new snow falling. I may never get this semester finished!)
