Homemade BBQ Sauce
>21 March 2010
This is the best recipe for homemade Barbeque Sauce that I’ve tried by far! And what’s cool about it is that you can freeze the leftovers in small ziploc bags to be used another time. I found it here, along with dozens of other wonderful freezer ready recipes.
Homemade BBQ Sauce
Makes 4 cups
- 3 c. ketchup
- 2 c. brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp liquid smoke
- 1 tsp salt
Simply mix all ingredients together over low heat until thoroughly combined and heated through. It’s that easy!
We especially love this sauce over meatballs or chicken. Yummy!!

We make our own BBQ sauce too but I make mine in bulk and we can it 6 quarts at a time. Mine is a little more difficult but it is oh so good!!
I made this with the crockpot chicken last week when it was posted and it was SO yummy we are having it again tonight at my husband’s request. Thanks for all the wonderful and informative posts!!!
Years ago my husband was given some BBQ sauce that we LOVED. I have never been able to find a recipe that seemed to fit the bill, but I am pretty sure this is it. The only difference was they added a little cayenne pepper for kick. Can’t wait to try this.
I found your blog through a google search for storing grains. I am having a blast reading all your posts and have so many new things to try. Thanks!
So glad to have you along, Miranda!
Ohhh, this is very simple to make! I actually have all the items too!!
If I made a bunch, do you think it would keep in the fridge for a month or so. I am trying to think of a natural preservative that I might be able to add to it. Or, maybe a tad more salt.*scratching chin*
Yes Michelle, it is VERY easy
I don’t know how long it would keep in the fridge, but you can freeze it in ziploc bags. That’s what I do!
If you made this what kind of canning process would you use? Water bath or pressure canning? Thanks. I my try this today in case its hot again.
Sharon:)
Just made it for bbq chicken today. It taste just like Store bought bbq sauce. Yummo. Thanks for the recipe. Also is the liquid smoke suppose to go in the fridge after opening? I can’t find it anywhere on the bottle. Thanks:)
Sharon:)
Sharon,
I don’t refrigerate the liquid smoke. It’s fine in the cabinet. So glad you liked it!!
Sharon,
I haven’t tried canning it. I don’t know what the best method for that would be, I’d have to do some research on it. I just freeze the leftovers in a ziploc bag laying flat.
