Lindy Sue’s Giveaway: Get Started Line Drying In Style!
**This Giveaway is now CLOSED. Congrats to Amy Roberts for being the lucky winner!!
Hanging clothes out to dry used to be something that only your grandma did. But with the economy suffering, and more people searching for ways to save money, line dried laundry has made a huge comeback. Since so many are now turning towards the clothesline once again, I thought it would be fun to show you just how chic it could be!
When it comes to line drying in style, nobody does it better than Lindy Sue. Lindy Sue’s carries an adorable line of clothes pin bags and clips, among other laundry goodies.
When I came across her Claudette Clothes Pin Bags, it was love at first sight. There’s just something about having a super cute accessory that makes hanging your clothes out to dry seem that much cooler. I had to have one.
Once the package came, and I beheld firsthand just how gorgeous the clothes pin bag actually was, I quickly decided that every lady must have one. Yes, it is definitely a line drying must-have. Not only does it look super cute hanging on the line, it also holds all of your clothes pins in a convenient place while you hang your clothes up to dry.
Even if you don’t line dry yet, I’m pretty sure that having one of these would inspire you to begin doing so immediately. Although I can’t give each one of you your very own Lindy Sue product, I am excited to share that Ms. Lindy Sue herself has so generously offered a Claudette Houndstooth Clothes Pin Bag to one of my readers!! (You can thank me later.)
*Also, Lindy Sue’s is offering an exclusive coupon code to my readers for 20% off through the month of June. Just use coupon code homestead10 when checking out.
If you aren’t line drying your clothes yet, what are you waiting for? Personally, I actually enjoy hanging my laundry out to dry. There’s something peaceful about feeling the breeze blowing against you while you hang your clothes to be dried in the warm sunshine. And knowing that it’s not costing me a dime makes it that much more enjoyable. Even if you don’t have a yard or patio to hang a clothes line, there are still many indoor products that you could use.
Check out how hanging your laundry out to dry will save lots of moola:
1. Reduce your power bill. Did you know that next to your refrigerator, the dryer is the second largest energy guzzling appliance in your home? Line drying your clothes won’t be life changing to your wallet, but it will definitely help to reduce your power bill by an estimated 5%, and can save you a lot of money in the long run.
2. Buy new clothing less often. Did you know that the lint caught in your dryer is actually fabric that has disintegrated from your clothing? Every time you tumble dry your clothes, a little bit of the fabric is worn down and lost. Line drying your wardrobe actually helps it to last longer!
3. Less need for Clorox. Did you know that the sun actually whitens your whites? I’ve found that sunlight has been wonderful for naturally bleaching out stains on my cloth diapers. (As a side note, it can also cause colored clothing to fade. It is good practice to turn colors inside out when line drying, and removing them as soon as they are dry, as long exposure to sunlight will result in colors fading.)
Did you know that the sunlight also kills bacteria? Even those smelly dish cloths will lose that foul odor after being hung out to dry in the sunshine.
4. No more dryer sheets. To keep your line dried clothes from being stiff simply add 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle in your washing machine. Don’t worry, you won’t smell it on your clothes, I promise!
So, lets get you started in style.

I currently subscribe to your website and LOVE it! Keep up the good work.
I would love to win the clothes pin bag. I currently do not hang dry my clothes but have wanted to for some time now. Not sure exactly why I haven’t just jumped right into it.
I don’t currently line dry my clothes because I’m pretty sure it’s against my apartment contract. However, I’ve thought about hanging things to dry inside. We have an extra bathroom in which the shower isn’t used, so I might convert it to a drying area. What a wonderful giveaway!
I already have your button on my sidebar.

As a SAHM on a VERY tight income, we have line dried for years! Can’t beat the sun for bleaching out stained dipes, and to sleep on line dried sheets is heavenly!
love the houndstooth bag. I currently dry my clothes on the line (onlly during the summer though, winters are brutal here!) I love the fresh smell of laundry after hanging out in the sun. We also have enough wind here that they rarely come in stiff and scratchy.
I hang my clothes to dry because I am very tall. I cannot dry them in the dryer because they shrink too much and then they just don’t have the length to them that I like.
I subscribe to your blog.
I line dry because I’m a cheap skate, what can I say
And I have become more and more sensitive to chemicals the older I have gotten. Love your blog and these pin bags are to die for!!!
I LOVE hanging my cloth diapers and the clothes that the boys wear out in the mud that is so hard to get stains out of.. the sun is sooo ever helpful in getting stains out…

I line dry to save money and because my dryer is broken.
I just hung a load of towels out this morning. I normally hate doing laundry but for some reason, I really enjoy hanging clothes up to dry. Plus I love that it saves money.

We just moved and now have a back patio so I can finally do some line drying! My original plan was just to dry my cloth diapers for the natural stain removing power of the sun but I need to get a bigger rack since I want to start drying more out there. Even without a neat pin bag, it’s addicting, but I’m sure the cuteness helps!
OHHHHH!!! THat is adorable! I actually do have some line to hang and clothes pins, but I can’t figure out where to put it here at our new place…the hubs was even trying to help me…maybe if we got more line. We just don’t want it in the way of the area the kids play, or it might become part of the play! =) Also…trying to figure out where to get the most sun/best sun. Atleast it hasn’t even really been sunny much here this spring, so I wouldn’t have been able to use it yet.
Also…I REALLY want it to look NICE…you know, not TACKY or anything! =) Any suggestions??? (without spending a fortune)
I totally subscribe to your blog through blogger…does that count??? If not, you can ignore this one! =)
I line dry because I have an apartment sized dryer that is essentially worthless! Oh, and because I like the way the line-dryed clothes smell!
I’m a fb fan and I posted your blog entry!!
I line dry my cloth diapers and sometimes sheets or other house linens. The sun is a great natural bleach! Also line drying gives me another reason to be outside with the kiddos.
I actually enjoy doing laundry, and hanging clothes out to dry gives me a lot of satisfaction. Of course, it also helps the environment and our power bill!
I subscribe! And I didn’t think of this when I posted above, but line-drying is also beneficial because it doesn’t set stains the way the dryer does, so you have another chance if you didn’t catch the stain the first time around!

I’d love to win!
Right now I don’t hang clothes out because we live on a dirt road and it is so dusty and my daughter already has allergies. But I have a nice line indoors that I use. Love the holders, they are cute.
Subscribed to blog and added to facebook and twitter!
I have been line drying for over 20 years. I recently moved to Phoenix AZ and have not even bothered to hook up my dryer. I will be able to line dry year round here!! I certainly could use a new pin bag. I have used mine from day one and it is falling apart!
Line drying is an excellent way to get natural vitamin D! All you need is about 15 minutes a day of sun exposure on your face and hands which is about what you get in hanging out a and taking in a couple loads of wash!
These are darling! I’ve started a series on clothesline drying on my blog and this would be a perfect item for all the ladies wanting to hang dry. I know I would LOVE to have one for myself! I’m in the process of switching over as we speak!
I became a FB follower and posted about the give-away on my Homestead Revival FB page.
I’m already a follower – you have a great blog, Kendra!

I currently don’t line dry because we live with my in-laws. We are just about to buy a house though and I can’t wait to set up a place to line dry!!!
I line dry because I am cheap!

I don’t currently line dry *all* of my clothes because of time and weather.
While a good rain here and there helps strip any build-up out of things, two weeks solid of rain means your underwear’s being held hostage an awful long time. Time constraints of basically being a single sahm of four kids 6yo and younger also play into it. But I now refuse to be without a clothesline after having one in the yard for so long – one of those things that *will* be happening shortly after we move.
I love line drying my clothes….unfortunately I have to put it off for a few more weeks, as I live in a “pine forest” that is in big time pollen season right now….as usual, can’t wait until it’s over. These clothespin bags are really cute and very creative!
This giveaway couldn’t have come at a better time. We will be moving in the next month and I’m going to be line-drying all of our clothes for the first time! I hope I win!
subscribed. I have been line drying for 28 years….and I have a nice Maytag dryer, but I just love the quite time of hanging the clothes and the crisp fresh way they feel when I take them off the line. My line is between an orange and grapefruit tree…my laundry always smells wonderful.
I line dry- inside and out!
I also subscribe!
Hello Kendra,
I am currently using my dryer. We have had times that I have line dried all our clothing…but do not have a good setup currently.Would love to start saving money this way again.:)~Nikki
I am also a subscriber!!!!!~Nikki
I currently hang my laundry on a clothes line and love it! Wish the mosquitoes would leave me alone, but its worth it! I love the scent of clean linens, dried on the line!
Currently I don’t have a clothesline yet, as we moved to a different home. But I love to hang certain things outdoors: sheets and anything that would need ironing. The breeze takes the wrinkles out. At our last home, we had a clothes line in the basement laundry room as well as outside. I would half way dry a lot of clothes in the dryer and then hang shirts and blouses etc on hangers to finish up Also slacks and jeans can be hung by the hems with the creases formed. This way there is less ironing needed.
I don’t really line dry a lot – I have a small backyard, so no room for a traditional line. I have a small folding rack that I occasionally use though.
I love line dried clothes. One family trick that we do is to put the clothes in the dryer for 5 mins, and then hang on the line – it takes out any of the crunchiness.
I line dry to save money on energy bills, to get the wonderful fresh smell, and for the enjoyment/relaxation I get hanging and taking down the clothing. I also just really like the look of a clothes line full of clothes in a yard. Maybe because it just looks more homey and inviting to me.

Your button is on my sidebar already. My name on my comment links to my blog.
We hang a load on the line nearly everyday from April to October…although I don’t care for the way denim and towels feel, I love how soft sheets and knits feel! Plus, it’s nice to count your blessings and gather your thoughts while you enjoy the quiet time hanging laundry.
I line dry as much as possible because I’m cheap! And my parents always did. We don’t always have the best of weather where I live for line drying, but I do it as much as possible!

Let me start by saying… hurrah… you did a great job on that trellis. You’ve inspired me to make something for my wild rose vine to grow on. Right now it’s laying all over the ground. Also I loved the article on line drying. I’ve been line drying in the summertime since forever, but I don’t in the winter due to space. I can remember my Mom line drying in the winter outside. She’d bring the clothes in and they’d look like there was somebody in ‘em. (sound like Dr. Suess’s “Pale Green Pants”).
I have a bucket I use for pins, but it would be cool to have such a fashionable pin bag. I have been thinking about making something a little more convenient than a bucket. I have to take my lines down after laundry is dry because of the construction going on around here. Nothing is permanent yet. When all is done I’m going to have a line up all the time… much more convenient.
Hope you have a great day.
Thanks for all your tips and analysis. I know it really helps those who are just on the verge of becoming more “homesteady”, (I don’t really care for the term “self sufficient” because our dependancy is in God alone… after all, He’s the one to make the sun, breeze, rain, gardens to grow, etc), you know what I mean right?

I have been hanging out my clothes to dry for many years. I love the smell of the clothes and being outside to hang them is very peaceful.

Ooo! I would love to have such a chic (LOL!) clothpin bag! I do hang out about 60-70% of my clothes–love the smell of fresh air dried laundry!
me again…and I am already an email subscriber.
What a cute clothes pin bag!! I’ve been hanging clothes on my line forever.
That’s the way my Mom did it (we never even had a dryer growing up), so that’s just how I’ve always done it. I love seeing clothes hanging on the line and blowing in the breeze. I do use the dryer in the winter and on rainy days, but my Mom (or us kids) even hung out clothes in the winter. I remember many times bringing in jeans and towels that were frozen stiff like boards. lol
I just subscribed. I love what I’ve been reading.
Just became a fan on Facebook as well.
So glad I found your site, love it! Please enter me in this cute giveaway! Just added you to my FB page too.
I line dry my clothes because I don’t own a dryer.

I just posted your site on my yahoo…Glad my daughter told me about your site.. Nice clothes pin bag!
In Vermont, line drying is wonderful in the summer. Winter is another story. I do most of my drying on my big porch. It is easy to check them and grab them when they are dry. Winter drying is done more i front of the wood stove. Barbara
I have been hanging most of our clothes on the line to dry to save on costs now that the air conditioning is running so much.
