Chocolate for long term emergency food storage! Thrive Gourmet Hot Cocoa: http://newlifeonahomestead.thrivelife.com/hot-cocoa-mix.html

This snowy weather we’re experiencing has been the perfect time for us to try some of the hot cocoa in our food storage. I was hesitant to even use our food storage budget on something so extravagant, but I know that creature comforts are so important during emergencies. And what’s better than chocolate!?

Although not technically an emergency, we’re pretty much snowbound at the moment. The kids were outside half the day playing in the snow. When they came in with freezing extremities I wanted to warm them from the inside-out as they sat, arm outstretched, by the blazing wood stove.

A quick trip into our food storage closet yielded a large #10 can of Thrive Gourmet Hot Cocoa. Could it be as delicious as it claims to be? I wanted to give it a try to see if it would be worth getting a few more cans. At under .30 cents per cup of cocoa, it’s actually a pretty sweet deal.

Using a can opener, I removed the tin lid and uncovered the sparkly cocoa inside. It already has sugar mixed in so all you have to do is add a couple of Tablespoons of the instant cocoa mix to a cup of hot water and stir!

Not surprisingly, Thrive’s Gourmet Instant Hot Cocoa Mix is delicious. Although making your own homemade hot cocoa mix isn’t hard to do, it’s nice to have an already pre-made mix on hand for emergencies. It has a 5 year shelf life, so it’s great to just stash away for a cold day. I foresee many cups of hot cocoa in the coming weeks as Old Man Winter bears down on us full force!
